LHR wasting Airlines' fuel.
LHR must be the worst airport in the world for wasting Airlines' fuel due to the holds that they have to do in the stacks prior to landing.
Stats would be helpful on this one.

Tabs please !
The M25 is rather good but unfortunately, too many people share my view and therefore ......... it is busy.
The Heathrow chappies do a thoroughly excellent job and given that they handle more movements per hour than two rugby teams after a night of vindaloo and Guinness, it would be difficult to name a better operation. Throw in some fog, high wings or some industrial action from our continental neighbours and the system continues to function to the limits of safety and not beyond.
(Could the LHR guys give BA15 and BA17 a prompt pushback tomorrow night please )

Unmanned
At Heathrow I hold in a clean configuration over a fixed geographical position.
I have just returned from Newark where in the past I have been vectored 20 to 30 miles downwind with Flap 5 extended. This makes it very difficult to ascertain at what fuel/location you need to start diverting or shouting about fuel. Not moaning about Newark just making the comparison.
Once you depart the hold at LHR you pretty much know you'll be fed in without being slowed early or given excessive vectoring.
As has already been alluded to, with landings already occurring with min spacing I'm not sure how you think things can be made more fuel effecient? Please enlighten...

LHR has been a huge bottleneck for over twenty years.
A rather sad excuse for an airport.
AMS works much better.
More runways I hear you say?
Yes indeed, and that is one of the many reasons LHR lags behind, reasonably efficient controllers or not....
LHR never will catch up.

I think we are flogging a dead horse on this one guys.
The only way that I envision fuel saving for the airlines is to eliminate the stacks, hence reducing the traffic volume into LHR.

Ok. Now we're getting somewhere. No stacks so no inbound holding.
What happens when ten aircraft turn up at Heathrow within five minutes?
What happens when we lose a runway?

If AMS is so much better, how do you explain the waste of 100+ tonnes per day of JET A-1 by aircraft taxi-ing all the way out to 36L when 36C is closed to apease the greens????????
