I'd say S/A have found the secret to eliminating their professional pilot shortage.

Dedication

I believe they now have a 'hold' file for suitable people. All caused by the new T's and C's. The SA employees must be making some big sacrifices and be extra dedicated than in 'other' companies... no excess baggage there...

Straight from the website

The Company offers an excellent remuneration package with base salary commencing at $100,000 for Captains and $60,000 for First Officers, remote area Location Allowances and an Annual Performance Bonus which is linked to Company contract performance.

Bushy,

The explanation is simple. There can be both a 'hold file' and a 'pilot shortage' because in a free labour market some companies are seen by prospective employees as employers of choice and others are not!!
