I see the Metoffice is in the process of over complicating the display of met information with their new Mavis site.
Nothing wrong with the simple system they have now.

Glad i might be giving up on flying soon.

All we want is a simple first page with 1 click to next page print off screen so we can pin on a board or save a copy for records.
First page just list vertical;

Tafs Metars.
214 and 215.
Weather radar.
Synoptic charts.

It's all we need.
No fancy graphics which are hard to read, no download then print hassle.

Get wiv it, bro'. Innit?

I rather like MAVIS so far - in particular the ability to see forecast cloud base on the map hour-by-hour, and the fact that it works nicely on a small screen (unlike A4 PDFs).

Well been using now a month, i hate it.
Why the need to reinvent the kettle spout.

Perhaps the world met folk are in collusion, the met office in Oz has likewise put up a new website and everyone is up in arms, from farmers to aircrew, bring back the old they say.

Well can't print off bulk Taf's.

So anyone wanting to plan in advance can't.

It seems the plan is from road to air to make travel as painful and inconvenient as possible.

MAVIS is going to KILL someone. The whole presentation uses the wrong colours, too many colours, it doesn't even give you anymore all the info we had previously, it wastes a lot of screen space for pretty boxes rather than showing you the map with the weather. Cloud base alone will kill someone since it does not take into account the height of the terrain. Also why is it still in BETA?? Our pilots are absolutely fuming how badly this has been handled and pushed out into the world.

There was nothing wrong with the previous version except for the constant default to showing the balloon symbols which no amount of changing the preferences would fix it.

I call it the kiddification of screen space.
Like the large blocks on Win 11.
To appeal to infants with boxes like play cubes.

I would look at the old met site daily to get the gist of what the day gives whilst having breakfast..
Can't be bothered now just wait until i need the info. just before i fly with student.
Usually have a quick look at local tafs on Allmetsat and some generic weather radar.

People who come up with sites haven't a clue how they are used.

Now met office opening a forum to discuss, so there is a problem.

Improvements everywhere in the Met Office.... they're fitting windows to their buildings soon.

I'm a dinosaur and I hate change for changes sake. But so far as I can see, MAVIS gives you everything that the old site did, plus a lot of new, useful stuff. F214 and 215 are still available, but pointless and obsolete. Instead of a 2000' wind averaged over a 6 hour period and a vast area, I can see a wind for 15 min slots and for a small area. Instead of trying to look at a monochrome A4 sheet covering a 9 hour period and the whole of the UK, I can see a visualisation of cloud base or visibility and for specific times. So I can see how the weather changes along a route, or I can scroll the time and see how it changes through the day. I can see cloudbase and visibility forecasts for a few days ahead.

I think it's a good attempt to use the flexibility of a colour screen to give more information, better presented

And they've listened to the feedback and changed the cloud-base graphic from AMSL to AGL. I also think that the cloud-base modelling has gotten much better / accurate as the system has bedded in. I don't like the new colours particularly but... hey ho.

It's taken a bit of time to get used to but it offers more than Helibrief and once you get used to it it's just as easy to use.
