MCCI Certificate
I’m looking to obtain an MCCI certificate in the UK. The list of schools able to do this is quite short and most of them do it in-house only. Any recommendations?
There are some schools in the EU that do the course, would I be eligible to do one? Previously held EASA ATPL and EASA FI. How easy would it be to convert an EASA MCCI to a UK one? All the documentation I can find on this says there are AMC and may be subject to individual agreement. Anybody tried to convert similar ratings? Still struggling with the regulations, can anybody confirm if the MCCI certificate states on it the device used for the qualification? Then if subsequently an organisation that runs MCC courses but does not have MCCI course approval can standardise you on their device. Many thanks, 6G |
Realistically, the only place to do an MCCI Course would be where you intend to teach it. Most organisations use different devices and the process of changing between organisations and devices almost amounts to doing the course again. Find an organisation that will employ you and do the course with them.

The issue I’m finding is that a forthcoming ATO that I have in mind isn’t planning on getting MCCI course approval, otherwise I wouldn’t have a problem. Having a look through the CAA list of ATOs that can do MCC courses not all of them have MCCI course approval, hence my previous questions. I’m also having difficulty in finding an ATO to give me an MCCI course as they tend to do them for internal candidates only. In a brief conversation with the CAA they said an ATO would have to be MCCI course approved to even convert an MCCI certificate to their device, so I’m not sure how that even works. I have emailed the CAA and asked them for advice. It seems whichever way I turn there are obstacles in my way, you commented on a previous posting of mine about my inability to get an STI without renewing my FI first, even though an expired STI could just renew. 6G |

My comments were based on my previous experience of checking out and approving MCCIs, all at the place where they intended to work. That was a few years back so I am not up to date with any changes that may have occurred. Not even sure which dept at the CAA does this any more. Whilst you might find an ATO who can offer a course it will only be valid on whatever device they operate. If its an FNPT then you could be in luck. |
The CAA have responded to my query and said (not as specifically as I’d like) that I can do an MCCI on one device at one organisation and be “standardised” on different device elsewhere.
Not all the ATOs offer MCCI courses even though they do MCC, as they can train and tend to employ TRI /SFI even though that’s not required. Needless to say, having been out of the airlines for a couple of years renewing a type rating and doing an SFI and possibly a CCQ would be very expensive |

Deeside Flight Simulators in Ellesmere Porthave been granted an ATO recently. Might be worth giving them a call too?

You could try CRM Aviation at White Waltham. I did a stand-alone MCCI course with them a couple of years ago. Excellent course!

I have indeed discovered Deeside Flight Simulators and I have booked an MCCI course with them next year.
Having dredged through the regulations my current take (I’m not a legal expert so do your own research if this affects you) is: When you have been issued with your MCCI certificate you are restricted to the device you did the course on. If you want instruct on different device for the SAME TYPE (eg A320), you can undergo standardisation by the ATO with the new device, it is an internal matter. No variation is required and no fee is payable to the CAA. That ATO does not have to be MCCI course approved. If you want instruct on a different device for a DIFFERENT TYPE (egg add 737 privileges to an MCCI with 320 privileges) then the practical training element of the MCCI course must be carried out on the new device, a variation is required, the forms must be filed with the CAA and a fee paid. That ATO has to be MCCI course approved as the have to sign the MCCI course completion forms. So my current plan is to get the MCCI certificate (on a 320) and be standardised by an ATO with a 320 FSTD locally. The reason for this is that the ATO I have in mind don’t plan to get MCCI course approval, otherwise I would have done it with them. Thanks folks for your input. 6G |

Okay, I've re read the thread now and I think I understand better where you are so I offer the following thoughts. The MCCi is a personal qualification once you have it, no type rating is required, current or otherwise. The ATO employing you would need to have a plan about standardising all their instructors on their training device what ever aircraft type it represents; I assume this is more about operating the device and delivering the syllabus using it.
