A320 TRI prospects and issues

Hi.I am Captain on A320 for a major European company.I have 5000 hours on the type and 1000 as a PIC on it.I am also certified FI,SFI and IRI on small aircrafts for the last 10 years.I am considering obtaining TRI on A320 which will be self funded. What do you think of my prospects on finding SIM centers where I can do sessions for other companies and gaining some expirience.Getting paid for that is not really an issue until a gain some real expirience.I am aware that I am not that expirienced compared to other instructors on the type but the feedback I recieve from my trainees on the small aircrafts and in the FNPT sessions so far is very positive.I belive that being a good instructor is not only expirience and knowledge but above all being a good psychologist and managing other feelings and emotions.

Check with your operator if they will allow you to do that in your free time; when instructing or checking it does count as duty time, hence your monthly max duty hours must be duly accounted for.

Generally speaking I am personally against working a "side job" as a TRI for an ATO or being a freelance examiner; this does contribute to the on-going T&Cs dumping as "you need to gain experience" even if you're getting paid peanuts, because it's fine as you have your main airline job providing the cash. The problem is then for the poor fella who loses his/her medical and is stuck to be a full time sim instructor / examiner, getting crappy conditions because of the vast amount of freelancers doing it for the fun and/or for a few extra bucks monthly.

If it was for me, TRI/TRE courses should only be administered within Airlines or within ATOs for full time employees.

Why didn't you get your TRI when you did the course for SFI? And if you're looking for SIM work, what can you do with the TRI that you can't already do with SFI?

Who knows why T&Cs within our Industry became what they are nowadays. It's a mystery.
