Creating a Flight School
 

I’m on the east coast of the US in a very densely populated urban area. Based on research there’s only one helicopter school that’s approximately an hour and a half away which used the R22. The closest school using the Cabri G2 is 2.5 hours away. The other issue is those are also the closest locations with rotorcraft available for rent. So say a student obtains their PPL, they are still driving significant distances to time build.

This leads me to realize there’s a possible gap in the market. So my question here is what experiences have you guys had with opening a school? What about partnering with an existing airplane flight school and offering helicopter leaseback to them? If you run a school would that be an interest to diversify your portfolio? What do the costs look like? How many instructors do you need to be viable?

Do Easa allow approved schools in the US?
