Instructor Examiner
Instructor renewal coming up and my usual examiner is unavailable. I asked the CAA where my next nearest might be - I'm in Pembrokeshire - and they replied saying that they can't tell me because of GDPR. Can anybody help?
|
It's a silly excuse to say that the GDPR prevenst sharing this kind of information. There is a provision in there that says that information that you need to carry out your work/function should be able to be shared. Convincing the CAA of that is of course a tough ask.
I would go and call all the flying clubs and flying schools in the area. These will each have their own lists of examiners that they work with and if they won't share their details, they should at least be able to forward your request to the examiner(s) they work with. |
Thanks. Unfortunately, my FTO only uses this examiner so it's as much in the dark as I am. Another CAA annoyance. Heigh Ho!

There is a list(slightly out of date!) of FIEs on the UK CAA website. Unfortunately, there are no associated location or contact details.

They can't tell you where you can find an Examiner, but you can find out who owns an aeroplane (G-INFO)! DVLA refuse to tell you who last owned your car!

I don’t know why the CAA can’t share that info when effectively it’s for commercial purposes. If I was searching for a plumber I’d be able to find their address and area of operation.. |
The CAA do publish contact details for AME's; I presume that somewhere along the line the AME's have given consent for this. Surely it wouldn't be too difficult for the CAA to obtain consent from Flight / Ground Examiners for some means of contacting them to be published.

Contact aopa.co.uk/020 7834 5631. They have people who use their brains.

It is unbelievable that the CAA cannot supply that information citing GDPR. Yet AOPA can…. Another example of the CAA general useless lack of service to the aviation community.
|
I'm sure this is incorrect (wrt GDPR) as most other EASA authorities (ireland spain france as a minimum) provide lists of examiners including their ratings. A Google search of their name would find a contact of some sort or LinkedIn profile I'm sure. If you look on the IAA list of examiners many of them are also CAA.
|
I was thinking it might be a CAA implementation of GPDR but I found out that the lists in The Netherlands also only show names and ratings, nothing more. So you would have to do your own search for contact information from that. Still, I reckon that by calling three or four ATOs/DTOs I could get in touch with a handful of examiners, and each of those will most likely be able to point me to some others as well.

Contact or better still join IFEIA and or join the Instructors & Examiners FB page, good luck
