Examiner and Proficiency Check

Hi All,

Quick query - can an examiner nominate an FI to conduct a class rating proficiency check then can the examiner sign off a class rating renewal based on that flight? (i.e. over 24 months since licence issue, but did'nt reval by experience - so according to Lasors Sec F 1.5 - need to pass a skills test)

I've been told that the Examiner can nominate an appropriate person to conduct the test then sign off the form but can't find a reference to it in Lasors, and I'm looking for the ref to settle a discussion with our flying group.

Cheers,
S

Absolutely not! An LPC for revalidation or renewal of a class rating can be conducted only by a suitably qualified FE or CRE.

I suppose it's not relevant but from Lasors Section I 1.1:

"Where no qualified examiner is available and, at the discretion of the Authority, examiners/inspectors may be authorised without meeting the relevant instructor/type/class rating requirements as mentioned above."

"The Authority" in that case would be the CAA - yes?

That is designed to cater for unusual types where no examiner exists. Note: it refers to Examiners not Instructors and Inspectors would be National Aviation Authority Staff, not all JAA Authorities have staff examiners!
