Aerobatic 'instruction'
 

Can a JAA instructor who does not have the 'no aerobatics' restriction removed from his instructor rating carry out aerobatics during an instructional flight, if he is not teaching aerobatics to the student, but merely carrying out aerobatics as handling pilot for the pleasure of both of them? A reference would be very handy, I can't find anything in JAR-FCL or LASORS.

Quite probably he can - but for the period of time you are watching his aerobatics as an interested passenger, you are not a student - so make sure you aren't paying for that portion of the flight as otherwise he'd probably be acting outside the privileges of his FI rating.

He must also be in 3/90 'recency' if you are going to be a passenger rather than a crew member for that part of the flight.

I keep telling myself to do that, and I'm sure I'd enjoy the course, but there always seems to be something more important to spend a thousand quid on :)

If at the end of a flying lesson you want to demonstrate a few "unusual attitudes" and your student agrees then do it.

As long as your not teaching them without the rating, then there should be no problem.

Most folk will leave the aircraft with a grin from ear to ear, However I always wait until the end of a lesson and keep the "G" to within reasonable limits, for obvious reasons.
