Can someone tell me, under JAR to obtain an intructors rating if you have to be the proud owner or cpl/ir or can a ppl upgrade without having to spend 30k.
I have a friend who wants to make a career out of instruction as oppose to APTL. |
A far as I'm aware, you must have passed the ground exams at CPL level to start the course. You will also have to complete a pre course flight test before starting.
You can instruct without an IR provided you have a valid IMC rating. If this lapses, you can still instruct, less IMC privelidges, but it MUST be renewed ASAP. |
Thanks for that !!

Under the old system you also had to have at least a BCPL / Frozen CPL - so the commercial GFT had to be taken. Has this changed under JAR? just the ground exams??

Pretty sure that, as with the old system, you can get an instructor rating on a PPL if you have passed the necessary CPL groundschool. However, you cannot fly for hire or reward without a commercial license.

In order to undertake a course of FI training you must have 200 hours of flight time including 150 hrs PIC if the holder of a PPL. You must have passed the CPL written examinations, have 30 hours on single engine piston aeroplanes including 5 hours in the 6 months preceeding the pre-entry flight test. Pass a pre-entry flight test within 6 months of comencing the course. Have a minimum of 10 hours dual instrument instruction ( no need for IMC rating) You must have 20 hours of X-Ctry time including a 540 Km X-Ctry with two intermediate landings conducted in one day.
And you can't be paid if you hold a PPL. |
