Can an AFI do the SEP Revalidation flight?

Just wondering whether an Assitant Flying Instructor can do the SEP Land revalidation flight or does it have to be a QFI or someone "approved" by the CAA blah blah blah....

I need to revalidate my SEP and was wondering if a friend of mine who is an AFI could do it? <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

Firstly, what do you mean by a revalidation flight? Revalidation means the rating has not expired so presumably you mean, the 1 hour Dual instruction flight with an Instructor. Yes an AFI can do it, he is an instructor.

If however you mean can an AFI do a proficiency check for licence revalidation, then the answer is No it must be an examiner because it is a test.

.......and you won't need a QFI to do either type of flight as 'QFI' is purely a military term!

FI(R) = Flight Instructor (Restricted). .FI = Flight Instructor. .FE = Flight Examiner. .QFI = Military Qualified Flying Instructor who has graduated from the Central Flying School.

Thanks for both your replies, to answer Noggins reply, my SEP has not expired so I take it that I have to do at least an hours worth of flying with an Instructor provided all the other criteria has been met.

Thanks BEagle for the terms, I wasn't sure whther or not there was a difference between a QFI or AFI etc.

Thanks once again for both you replies.

Note also that the '1 hr flight with an instructor' can be replaced by any routine flight test for any other JAR/FCL licence or rating - or an IMC Rating test. So if you have a JAR/FCL CPL with ATPL theory credit upon which you also have a UK IMC rating, the revalidation flight for the IMC Rating will count if, it's in the second 12 month period.
