Teaching in private cat aircraft. UK.

A friend of mine owns an aircraft but as yet has not got his PPL. I understand that I can teach him on a private cat aircraft as he owns it, and that I would have to teach him from a licenced airfield, but do I also have to do it under the wing of an approved CAA flying school?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Firstly there are no CAA approved PPL schools. If you wish to give instruction as a sole instructor you must Register with the CAA see AIC 67/1999 http://www.ais.org.uk/Uk_aip/pdf/aic/4W355.pdf

Once registered you may give instruction from a licenced airfield. If the aircraft is solely owned by the person you are training, you may be payed as well, but if the aircraft is group owned then you cannot be paid on a private cat aircraft.

Spancan,

Yes you can teach him, yes you need to register with CAA (no fee) but (and this is a big but!) you must have brief/debrief facilities at the airfield (not in your car!)

I have recently spoken to the CAA about this very subject.
