Instructing for the CPL

Question:

What is involved, flight training wise and test wise, if you wish to upgrade an instructor rating to be able to teach the JAR CPL(VFR) courses?

I think I have the hours, now I wouldn't mind the rating.

I believe that you can either do a test with a CAA examiner, or if the FTO where you're working has an acceptable method of internal standardisation, it can simply be done in house.

There is no 'commercial instructor's rating' as such. Approval to teach to CPL level, as TooHot says, is an internal school thing (although the CAA will provide an examiner if asked). If you move schools subsequently then you go through the same thing again.
