Minimum Wage
 

Are you instructors aware that the minimum eage applicable to ourselves if we are availiable to work but due to adverse or dubious weather we have deemed prudent to stay on the ground that, averaging out the number of hours that we are on duty compared to the hours we actually fly, we are entitled to the national minimum wage.

For example I flew eight hours and 45 mins in the month of December full time yet duty time was 48 hours hanging around guessing what the weather was going to do. Therefore I am entitled to 48 x £3.70 as a wage. I am not entitled to a wage if I deem as an instructor that it is unwise to come in that day. I am entitled to a wage if the weather is borderline. Does anyone have any comments or instances where enlightened clubs understand the new european employment rules.

Hi Mayday. I think you must be right. As always the problem is as to whether your prepared to stir it all up. Someone should though. The other issue is the max. no. of hours you can work in a week without signing to say that you approve of the extra hours.
I work a ten+ hour day and am expected to do that whatever the weather's doing. Happily Im paid a salary, but the hours are still very long and not good for personal or girlfriends morale.

You'll find the flying schools are very aware , and so should you, but from the words of a great man, (and probably most CFI's,)
"there is always someone else willing to do it". My advice - Be happy you have a job in the industry you love, dont rock the boat.
It seems from both posts, you are more interested in the chick in the pa38 and how much you get paid for it ?

good.Perhaps a little more application to your work and not dreaming about your student who by the way is PAYING you to teach NOT as you put it,<get a horn>????
We have all been in work that is beyond a joke as far as pay is concerned,BUT i would suggest if you continue on this negative attitude you probably won,t last that long anyway.
Be professional,-your HORN can wait,trust me.

Have I missed something ? How did you get onto the horn from a question about dosh ? What do you eat for breakfast ? Can I have some ?
