Should I or Should'nt I?
Well I'm just wanting to know if anyone would have not done a Instructor rating if they could have got other flying work instead?
Im currently working but do you think it is still worth while doing a Instructor rating? I'm not sure. Any comments on your Instructor Ratings and your time now Instructing would be most helpful. Thankz. |
Hi Flyingchick, an instructor rating will lift the standard of your theoretical knowledge and understanding ,flying ability and accuracy and should instil a more proffessional attitude all of which you can then pass on to your students, however i would never recommend doing the I/R unless you intend to use it to actually instruct unless you're bloated with cash which we never are . Good luck.

Thanks airag for your advice i do already have an I/R and am finding it hard to keep it current so do you think a instructor rating would be good?
|
Depends on whether or not you want to teach people to fly.
|
Sorry Flyingchick, I/R in that context actually meant Instructor Rating not Instrument, but i stand by the advise to leave it unless you intend to instruct for a while.

If you don't want to instruct then don't do the rating. It will be a waste of your money. To instruct you have to want to instruct, there is no point teaching someone how to fly if you are not fully committed to the role of a teacher, as they will pick up on it!

Flying Chick,
When I originally booked my instructor course I must confess that it was primarily with the intention of hour building. However I soon found that I really enjoyed it and now consider it to be my profession. I have gone on to include the IMC teaching ticket and multi teaching ticket (although I hav'nt used either yet!). I am sure many of us here if we were honest would admit to originally 'doing it for the hours'. One last note, are there too many people becoming instructors now though? Just a thought. Cheers JWF |
