hey www, You must be fed up moderating the Wannabe's. After seeing some of the daft remarks in that thread, I wonder how you manage to keep so tolerant. Sometimes, I wish I could sit down with these young people and explain the hard facts of life, especially around aviation. God I'm beginning to sound like my father!

Wee Weasley Welshman 24th May 2001 12:10

Yeah, sometimes the naivety gets me down but that was me once so I try to keep calm.

WWW

airag 24th May 2001 14:59

You're doing a great job on this one WWW,i'd better stop now before i sink to their level!

Charlie Foxtrot India 24th May 2001 15:51

Yup WWW I just read the latest on that thread and it's making me so annoyed I wish I'd taken my own advice and ignored it!!
Crash is contradicting himself so much that he has to be a wind up. As for the other one, well he was on chat the other day and really is as naive as he sounds.
So don't take the bait and let the thread die a natural death.
Difficult I know!!!

They probably think all instructing is full of blue skies and happy students who do their homework, arrive on time and never eat garlic; and aeroplanes that never go wrong and never come back late etc...I suspect they probably dress up in a pilot costume and parade up and down in front of the mirror too!!

They wouldn't last five minutes in the real world, and as someone said, they would be off "like a rat up an aquaduct" as soon as it was less than perfect because hey, they're not paid to be there are they!

I love the guy who said this

...All I was saying was that everything doesn't always have to be for finacial gain. If I were in charge of a flight school in the future, I'd be doing everything I could to get as many young people a chance to fly, regardless of whether I were making profit or not...Fair enough, charge the middle-aged weekend flyers and keep your business going...But at the minute I doubt there are many poor flight school owners around

What’s wrong with middle aged flyers, bloody cheek

Charlie Foxtrot India 24th May 2001 18:51

Yeah right! That made me chuckle too, being a flight school owner, I am hardly rolling in cash, and nor are any of my competitors. Most of us are spending most of our turnover on keeping our elderly aeroplanes airworthy, fuelled and insured. "Hefty Profits" bwahahaha and the old chestnut, if you want to make a small fortune in aviation, start with a large fortune.

Where there are wealthy flying school operators, you can bet your boots that they derive their income elsewhere and are probably using the flying school for a tax loss. Some flying clubs are wealthy, but usually it is the bar and membership fees that keep them this way, not the flying.

As for the chap quoted above who thinks that he has a right to cheap flying because he is a student, well maybe he thinks he is entitled to a brand new mercedes and an free house too. He obviously isn't doing an A level in economics.

If he came into my flying school I'd love to hear him explain his thinking to the "middle aged businessman" who has probably been slaving away for many years to be able to afford to fly and have all the "normal" things like family, house, car etc and try not to have a heart attack in the process.

Let's hope this thread stays among us pros and those others aren't silly enough to butt in. Otherwise I might have trouble resisting using my moderators muscles!

Aaaahhhhh, bickering with PPLs on the internet, it's the sport of kings ... thank you WWW and CFI for letting it continue, in the face of extreme provocation - I would have had a really dull Friday at work otherwise :)

Still, god help aviation, if a few of that lot actually carry out their threats of becoming instructors ...

It's funny that for people with so much to offer the instructing fraternity, that we've never seen a a single one of them in here before, I wonder why?

Say again s l o w l y 28th May 2001 02:11

That really is a classic one, at work we occasionally get people like this, but they are quickly shown the door/window-ground in the shortest possible time. God help the poor sod who teaches these kid's.

As for Crash....... Need I say more.*****~~~###*#**#*#*#*#* oh alright then #@*~'/* (edited for minor's)

Night Rider 28th May 2001 20:59

WWW,

What you need is a website for INSTRUCTORS ONLY. A number of instructors I know never look at PPRUNE because they think its for Jet Jockey's (either that or their too old and set in their ways to understand the internet !)

I have thought in the past along the lines of setting up an instructor union (which would include a website) but I don't have the computer skills or the time to undertake such a task.

Good idea though, food for thought.

Say again s l o w l y 29th May 2001 02:48

Good idea night rider. You'll have one member for certain if you get it running.

Can you post/e-mail some details, that is if they exist yet!!!

MikeSamuel 29th May 2001 12:33

My apologies for the middle aged comment, I was a bit fed up that day, as I didnt make it to the airport for my first lesson http://www.pprune.org/ubb/NonCGI/frown.gif

Regards

Mike ;)

All hail WWW, demonstrator and repository (wrong word?) of PATIENCE the touchstone of the Instructor. I wish I could do what you are doing with the wannabees. Do you ever fire up at students or are you one of the even-tempered people of the world?

Quite entertaining to imagine crash talking to some people I know. Stand clear and don't make eye contact! As for me I think I'd get bored and find something else to do.
