From zero hours to instructing, how much do you think?
 

As the subject says, how much to go from zero hours (or thereabouts) to qualified instructor rating enabling you to get an instructors job at a flying club, and whilst you're at it how long would it take full/part time?

A rough estimate will suffice, assuming a PPL can be gained for about £4000 either in US or UK, and any hour building done in US or UK.

Any guesses please...?

200 hours @ £85 per hour = £17000
Instructors Course 30 hours @ £150/hr = £4500
CPL Exams £1000
Sounds like £22.5K +- a bit.
If you want the CPL as well add another £5K

for the hourbuilding buy a part share and then sell it at the end, as long as you are carefull with what youbuy you will more than recoup your outlay

Noggin, I take it that you only need the CPL ground exams and not the full CPL lisence to under take an AFIC?

Solent - you can do a FI(R) Course on a PPL (as long as you have passed the CPL ground exams). The only difference is that you need 150 hours P1 (out of the 200 TT) instead of the 100 for holding a CPL or ATPL.

I thought you needed more than a PPL to instruct? ie better than a class 3 medical (under the old rules). This would mean a BCPL at least wouldn't it?

You can instruct as the holder of a PPL under JAR-FCL as you always have been able to under national rules. You do need to have demonstrated CPL level knowledge and pass a FI test on completion of a FI Course. If you wish to be remunerated, then you need to hold a commercial licence.
FIs with only a PPL cannot be remunerated, except for Microlight instruction and Helicopter instruction provided they were qualified before 1 Jan 2000. Sounds like a good equal opportunities case for the European Courts!

A PPL holder only requires a Class 2 Medical Certificate, even to instruct.
