FIC Course: Where's best?
Finished Cap.509 Frozen ATPL a few months back and thinking about an FIC course. Would appreciate your views on where to do it, especially with a view to getting an instructor job afterwards. I'm West London based but willing to travel anywhere if necessary.

If you can find a place on an FIC course book it the JAA regs are killing them off due to lack of interest.

Try C&S Aviation at Wolverhampton both Chris Caine & Nick Davis are FI instructors.

Nick Davis has now left C+S and works for Halfpenny Green Flight centre. Most of these courses are very poor and don't really prepare you well for the real world. Get the rating and choose a school thats interested in your development as an instructor.

If you live in west london then try Gordon sharp at West London Aero Club 01628 823272 his courses seem quite good from what I have heard.
I wouldn't try the previously mentioned place in Melbourne Fl as someone else suggested..It is a place called International flight training and from what I have experienced the place was awful!! |
I tried C+S and had a poor experience. I understand that a court case is going through at the moment against them by another unhappy student.

Well, there are quite a few still offering FIC (my lot included). The JAR system means that you need to go for all the approvals in one, really (MODCPL, FIC, MEP, etc). It is hard work getting 'em now!
I'm not pushing us - I'd welcome anybody else's experience and thoughts, just to help us be better. Richard |
Old Sarum seems to have a good reputation with very skilled instruction from David Scouller CFI

I agree with Pigsy.
Very competent and professional instruction from Groupie(aka David Schouller) at Old Sarum. If you can cope with military style precision that he portrays and expects, you learn huge amounts. You also do your course on a taildragger. Great experience and very useful when you want an instructors job. Useful tips for completing the course with David: Be on time for a 09:00 start Expect to be called Mugsy forever. No slacking or you'll be reported as a deputy cretin for a court martial. And finally, Oh Hi!! |
Just a question, in Australia it seemed to be the case that you do an instructor rating with a school that is willing to give you a job afterwards, cause any other school wouldn't consider employing you if you were trained by somebody else. Is it the same in Europe ?
