G5 and Garmin 430

How does one set up for VOR tracking using both the Garmin 5 and 430? I am guessing that the VOR identifier needs to be placed in the 430 with the Direct too function.

Not sure what your question is. Are you talking about the G 5 configured as an AI or as an HSI. If it is configured a HSI than it is the same as any CDI. The desired track is set on the 430 either as a direct to, flight plan leg or OBS course, with VLOC mode selected.

If the G5 is set up as an AI then all track information will be on the 430 screen

Almost no experience with the 430 but I do have a G5 integrated as "backup instrument" for my G3X Touch system with external GPS 175 IFR navigator. In AI mode it displays both vertical and lateral deviation scales for GPS data.

Doesn't the G5 AI mode have lateral and vertical deviation scales when integrated with a 430?

Configured as a HSI, that makes more sense, thank you.
