Loosing my license: Revalidation during Soli In of UK PPL (A) to Germany

Hi folks,

I think I made a grave mistake when opting to Soli my PPL (A) / SEP from the UK to Germany. I have started the Soli Out from the UK and the Soli In to the German LBA in January 2020, roughly 15 months ago. Sadly, the process is still stuck in limbo. Regrettably, in a fortnight my revalidation period ends.

I hoped that procrastination and sticking my head into the sand would magically solve my problems but seems this didn't turn out so well.

Issues:
- I must complete revalidation until the end of the month for my UK SEP. I assume that not going for revalidation will be bad for the Soli. However, for various reasons I haven't flown a single hour in the last 24 months. On top of that I am a German national staying in Spain at the moment and traveling during Corona times might be an issue here. As the Soli hasn't completed I assume I only hold a national UK license at the moment which would limit my choices for an eventual revalidation.
- I would love to complete my Soli but that is stuck because for about a year now the LBA wants more detailed info on the first medical that was originally conducted by an AME in Spain and then Soli'ed to the UK CAA during my initial flight training. The UK CAA doesn't seem to understand what the LBA needs or might not have that info (audiograms and thelike). The original AME in Spain is unwilling (!) to help; his stance is that this info should be available to the UK CAA and that he doesn't have any access to my old records anymore.

And, yes, although I stuck my head in the sand likely for too long a time, I would love to keep my license.

And ideas better than "get a new EASA PPL"?

Cheers,
Artus

I think you should contact the UK CAA Medical Deptment and see what their view of the SOLI process is. Either they can progress what the LBA want or they can't, the latter would seem to apply. As the process has not completed you now have a UK Part FCL Licence which you should revalidate or renew in the usual way, that will require a UK licensed examiner.
It might prove easier to do a 3rd party licence conversion to Germany, that way you retain your UK licence and get a German EASA licence on conversion.

Yeah, revalidation / renewal of the UK license seems the prudent way to go for. The transfer to Germany can then be solved without that pressure in the back.

UK Licence holders can use an EASA Examiner for a Prof Check, as long as they held their examiners certificate before the beginning of the year and they must send a test notification before the PC.
Which would probably be easier than finding a UK Examiner who is allowed to fly a Spanish aircraft.

I think you'd find several hanging around Jerez, without any trouble at-all.

Yeah, I wasn't aware of the sensible British regulation that Edgington mentioned. But after that I figured I call people in Jerez. Quite positive they can help me next week with the revalidation.
Thanks alreads, hive mind!

Update

Time for a little update:
Having had a little luck with the availability of planes, an instructor, and the weather I managed to complete 12 hours and 12 landings (plus a little extra) in the nice scenery in and around Jerez. The only downside was that I wasn't allowed to land anywhere except in Jerez because all the planes that I got were EASA-reg'ed and thus didn't fit my license and the instructor was a bit afraid I might end up grounded in some other airport.

The only thing left is a UK FE's signature (or an UK instructor with FCL.945 privileges) but I am positive that I will find a solution for this as http://publicapps.caa.co.uk/docs/33/ORS4No1484.pdf gives time till July for this (which I don't think I need).

Instructor can only sign if he did one of the hours

Artus KG 23rd Apr 2021 18:07

Instructor didn't hold a UK license, regrettably. So this is not an option anymore. But, well, you helped me out with my last revalidation so I have some addresses at hand.
