G1000 track diamond
 

I’m struggling with an IR student who does not make any attempt to work out a rough wind corrected heading, most noticeable joining an airway. He turns onto track and then adjusts the heading to put the diamond on track. Holds are interesting.

is there any way to turn off the pink diamond on the PFD?

Not in the aircraft but in the sim you can by failing GPS 1 & 2 from the instructor station.
