temp issuance of a ATPL 24 month

I have a Cdn ATPL (ICAO) and am now living in Europe.

16000hrs various type ratings etc

I keep seeing vague references to a provision that would allow me to obtain a EASA ATPL valid for 24months as long as I completed a medical and a skills test on an appropriate type...ie my current 777.

Am I right in this

I cant find any official document stating this or even an application form to start the process

I am kindly requesting any advice and or assistance,

Cheers
Noodle.

Not exactly. You can get your ATPL validated for up to 12 months, assuming you can find an employer who will take you with a validation (which is unlikely, as the option exists for occasions were there are no EASA qualified pilots around). The validation can be renewed once, but only to allow extra time to pass the EASA exams.

Just take the exams.

Thanks for the insight it is much appreciated.

as for Just Take the Exams .....

26 years and about 15000 hours after writing my first ATPL, I've since written and passed the Australian ATPL the FAA ATPL and the Chinese ATPL for which in each I had to write one or two exams at most.

The EASA exam isn't an easy 1 or 2 exam process... as you know it gives zero credit for industry experience and transferable credit.

Now I would understand if it were considered a superior license but its really not.

The process is designed for new flight students enrolled in college not guys who are trying to feed the family continue to work and wish to obtain the license based on realistic expectations.

cheers
