SEP/Sea CR - Diff Training Instructor
 

Hello to everyone,
Thinking about to became a SEP(Sea) FI. I'm already FI and I'm asking to mysefl which is the correct way to extend also to the Sea Rating my privileges.
As a CRI, you can
FCL.905.CRI CRI – Privileges and conditions:
...
(b) The privileges of a CRI are restricted to the class or type of aeroplane in which the instructor assessment of competence was taken. The privileges of the CRI shall be extended to further classes or types when the CRI has completed, within the last 12 months:
(1) 15 hours flight time as PIC on aeroplanes of the applicable class or type of aeroplane;
(2) one training flight from the right hand seat under the supervision of another CRI or FI qualified for that class or type occupying the other pilot’s seat.

I Did not found anything similar same for FI's and my question is :
To provide instruction for all the Different Training, (TW, SLPC, EFIS, TU, VPP, RG) and in this case also instruction for a new class rating (SEP/SEA), of course you have to hold it :-) as an FI (Not CRI) which are the prerequisite?
(When I Passed my AoC as FI, all the Diff Training as above were already signed on my logbook , but I did my exams with a very old C152...)
For Night/Towing/Aerobatic is clearly explained as follow:

the night rating, provided that FIs meet all of the following conditions:
(1) are qualified to fly at night in the appropriate aircraft category;
(2) have demonstrated the ability to instruct at night to an FI qualified in accordance with point (j);
(3) comply with the night experience requirement laid down in point FCL.060(b)(2);
(g) a towing or aerobatic rating, provided that such privileges are held and the FI has demonstrated the ability to instruct for that rating to an FI who is qualified in accordance with point (j);

My reading of the regulation is that as the holder of an FI rating who is qualified in that class of single engined aircraft, then you are qualified to instruct on it. I suspect this is not the intention of the rule, but that 's what it says!

See point (b)(3) in FCL.915, "... holders of an instructor certificate with privileges to conduct flight instruction in an aircraft shall ... have ... completed at least 15 hours of flight time as pilots of the class ... of aircraft on which flight instruction is to be given ... or ... passed an assessment of competence for the relevant category of instructor on that class ... of aircraft ..."

It's a bit of a quirk in the rules, but effectively you need to do the CRI - SEA course because you have an FI you get credit for the ground lessons.

You need 10 Hours Technical Training, 3 Hours Flight Training then an Assessment of Competence.

Seaplane training is largely left to the discretion of the NAA. In the UK details can be found here but in Italy it may be different.
