Instrument Rating revalidation

I currently hold an EASA APTL with only a 737 type rating and its related IR and in the remarks and restriction sections it says MP.

I am planning on renewing my SEP (expired 2 years ago). To be able to fly IFR on a SEP, do I need to do an IR proficiency check on a SEP?
Subsequently, when I do my yearly LPC for my type rating, does it cross-credit to the SEP/IR for revalidation purposes automatically or do I need two proficiency checks every year?

I did try to look into the Part-FCL document appendix 8, but it's not really clear.

You'll need to do a proficiency check in a single to get your IR-SP-SE issued then you can revalidate every year by experience using your 737 LPC in lieu of a test. I think you'll need 3 approaches and departures IFR in the logbook, I haven't read the document in a while.

Maybe different if not on a UK EASA licence, unless this bit really is joined up in every state!

Thanks for the replies. And one more question: if I renewed my MEP, would I also need again a Proficiency check to get a IR-SP-ME to be able to fly a MEP?

Basically I stopped worrying about this stuff when I got my job in the airlines, but I'm planning on building some hours also on twins in the US and I want to get everything in order before going ahead with the FAA validation.

Good point, I was talking about the UK!

Basically yes, and I believe it could be done in one ride. (I fly Boeing but never had MEP!!)
Doing the IR SP in Multi gives you SE privileges anyway, although it's only the SE that can be revalidated by experience (with your LPC) - To revalidate the multi IR you'll get credit for the LPC but you'll still need to do the asymmetric elements as part of a reduced test.

If you only want the multi for conversion purposes, you'll need some MEP flying anyway, so you might as well get your IR-SP-ME at the same time. When you apply to the CAA, ask for a separate SEIR. That way, if you let the multi lapse, you can still keep it valid by experience.

Are you sure about the ME-IR granting privileges for SE-IR as well? I have been told by others that had to do a SE-IR add-on first. The FCL isn't really clear in Annex 8.

You will need to do a full IR renewal on either the SEP or MEP (the MEP rating and IR can be combined), then every 12 months you will need to reval on the SEP or MEP however if you are keeping your 737 rating current and you don't let the SP IR lapse you can cross credit which means only 2 approaches needed (if on MEP then EFATO followed by SE ILS to SE GA then 2 Eng NPA followed by the requirements to reval MEP). The MEP IR only revalidates the SEP IR if both are valid, if the SEP is no longer valid then you can only have the SP ME IR put back on licence. To put the SP SE IR back on later would require another flight test (this came in in March)

What a mess... Thanks for the clarification!

2020 Part FCL Amendment:

(24) in point FCL.620, the following point (c) is added: ‘(c) Applicants who have completed a skill test for a multi-engine IR in a single-pilot multi-engine aeroplane for which a class rating is required shall also be issued with a single-engine IR for the single-engine aeroplane class or type ratings that they hold.’;
