Vigilant time towards an FI rating

PPL(SEP) wants to do an FI course meets all the requirements except 150 hours PIC. However if they add their vigilant time they do meet this requirement. Is this acceptable? If not would it be acceptable if they held a TMG rating?

FCL915.FI.FI says:

(2) hold at least a PPL(A) and have:
(i) met the requirements for CPL theoretical knowledge, except for an FI(A) providing
training for the LAPL(A) only; and
(ii) completed at least 200 hours of flight time on aeroplanes or TMGs, of which 150
hours as PIC
;
I am not sure how obtaining a TMG Class rating after ther hours were flown would make any difference. It is an experience requirement and so long as it was legally acquired it should fulfil the requirement. That said, I have not seen this route used since the Vigilant was classed as a Group A aircraft.

I've had this one fairly recently (with a CRI candidate). The CAA were happy to confirm that any PIC time gained on aeroplanes or TMGs where the candidate was legally entitled to fly it at the time counted, so a military Certificate of Competence was fine, no TMG rating required.

Hi Mickey

in the days of the JAA they counted Vigilant hours for the minimum required to upgrade from what was then AFI to FI so I think it’s likely it would be a yes now. I argued that the Vigilant was heavier, faster and had a greater range than a C152!

Waiting for the pedants.....
