ME/IR renewal - Expired by 12 years.

Hi everyone.

As the subject title say, my ME/IR have expired by 12 years.

Anyone have a fairly good knowledge on what is required for a renewal?

I’m flying as FO on Airbus and have a valid, but not using it, IRI on SEP.

Any idea and/or input? For sure through an ATO but is it an hour issue in regards to training or just “to proficiency”

Clarified in the latest Part FCL Amendment:

A recent question has highlighted that Appendix 8 to Part-FCL has now been amended to change the cross-crediting available to current airline pilots. Cross-crediting is applicable to RENEWAL as well as REVALIDATION of the EASA Instrument Rating. So, an airline pilot who last held a IR-SP-ME when he gained his CPL some years ago can now get that IR-SP-ME renewed on the back of his type rating revalidation by just flying Sections 1 and 6 or, if he only wants an SE IR, he only needs to have flown 3 approaches with an FI (or solo if he has an IR(R)) and get the paperwork signed by a CRE/IRE.

I'm a airline pilot in China, and I got the EASA CPL-ME-IR in 2009.
Is that to say I can get the IR-SP-ME renewed when I'm on the endorsement of A320 type rating training by just flying Sections 1 and 6 on the FFS in ATO?

No, it means that you only have to complete Sections 1 and 6 of the proficiency check on an MEP aeroplane or FSTD and you have credit for all other Sections from your A320 type rating.

Is it possible to give a reference or link to this change. Google just goes to an SASA document where appendix 8. ( cross crediting ) still only mentions re-validations and not renewals, and I couldn’t see any mention of it in the UK CAA latest part FCL amendment dated November 2019? Thanks for any help.

Thank you Bob, I think I got it. I need to make the training in an ATO to complete Section 1 and 6 for the check.
By the way, where can I find the details of Section 1 and Section 6?

This is interesting and new though:

*2) Provided that within the preceding 12 months the applicants have flown at least three IFR departures and approaches exercising PBN privileges, including at least one RNP APCH approach on an SP class or type of aeroplane in SP operations, or, for multi-engine, other than HP complex aeroplanes, the applicants have passed Section 6 of the skill test for SP, other than HP complex aeroplanes flown solely by reference to instruments in SP operations.

For all those RNP & PBN PA28's out there! Makes it slightly more tricky to keep current.
