Renewing old Fi rating

Hi all, currently flying a 787 but last SEP flight at least 5 years ago. I have 1000 hours as a flight instructor 15 years ago.

My daughter wants to learn to fly so I could either renew my SEP and do a few hours off book with her or go the whole hog and Renew my instructors rating.

Would I have to complete a full FI course or are there any shortcuts based on my experience level?

Thanks. BB

FI Refresher Seminar, training as required at an ATO, FI Assessment of Competence. My personal best so far is someone 35 years beyond initial expiry, 33 non-flying years in the middle, recently current again in SEP.

training as required at an ATO
Just training as required to pass the Assessment of Competence with an FIE

FCL.940.FI FI — Revalidation and renewal
(c) Renewal. If the FI certificate has lapsed, the applicant shall, within a period of 12 months before
renewal:
(1) attend an instructor refresher seminar;
(2) pass an assessment of competence in accordance with FCL.935.

Thanks folks I guess I’ll dust the books off.

I did what you are planning after a very long break from instructing, I chose to use On Track Aviation for the instructor seminar and ground school last year, can highly recommend them.

Indeed - I was remiss in not splitting between requirement and advice :O. Recent experience with long lapsed candidates has been that Licensing expect an ATO recommendation despite the Regulation. At this point I've already used my first contentious topic discussion with them token for this year, but I suspect there'll be more over the next months, as no year seems to be simple!

You do realise that all training now has to be done within an ATO (or RF/DTO). The days of freelance instructing are over, thanks to the great bureaucracy.

Clearly, they don't know the difference between JAR and EASA.
