LAPL ratings page
I was made aware today that someone I know was stopped from flying because someone who doesn't understand LAPL licences checked his licence and said he didn't have a valid rating. PLEASE can people get the fact that the rating for LAPL(A) is part of the licence. Provided the holder has flown in the last 2 years ; 13 hours, of which one must be with an instructor then it is self renewing with no examiner involvement. The CAA don't help by putting boxes titled valid from and to. These boxes should not have anything entered. It also says SEP when it should be SSEA. Rant over.

The Part-FCL LAPL(A) does not have any Class Ratings included per se. It can have SEP (not 'SSEA' - which is only applicable to the NPPL or UK PPL) and/or TMG privileges and can also include night, aerobatic, towing and mountain ratings.
The unique structure of the LAPL continues to confuse both licence holders and others alike... |
Why they have to mess with a system that works eg date of test and valid until is beyond me. Why put boxes on a page that don't get filled in is stupid. The holders logbook is the important document in this case.

Nobody has messed with anything, EASA has produced a single licence format for all licences. Perhaps the onus is on the licence holder to point at the relevant page of legislation so that the uninformed can catch up.

1) Valid licence 2) Valid medical 3) Valid class rating Why make their job difficult? I accept that people should get up to speed on the changes but in reality this takes years. |
Well I think it is stupid to have such a format that a reasonably competant person can't work it out for themselves. |
