CRI FCL.945 privileges SEP/SSEA

Morning all,

I have a CRI rating with FCL.945 privileges on my SEP and TMG. Can I conduct the hours flight with a instructor and sign the licence of someone who has a SSEA and SLMG.

When reading the literature it says you have to hold the ratings you are signing for which technically I dont.

Thanks in advance,

S

You've probably answered your own question but I'm sure a guru will be along shortly............

Squawk 2650 14th Feb 2017 08:56

Thanks MrA, but the SSEA and SLMG ratings from what I can see are UK ratings so surely it would be possible to sign it off. There is so much literature and I can't find it anywhere...

A guru would be very handy....

I have SLMG included in my old brown licence, but there is no mention of it in my EASA licence.
Since I don't keep the old one "signed up" I would not carry out the flight, or indeed a test if asked, so would not revalidate either.
Having never flown one would also stop me (personally)!

I now also await a guru............

MrAverage 14th Feb 2017 13:56

........I have no problem with signing SSEAs.

Squawk 2650 14th Feb 2017 20:17

So do you sign off the SSEA when you only have SEP on your CRI ticket?

I've emailed the LAA so see what they come back with!

FCL.945 is an EASA privilege and relates only to EASA licences and ratings.
Some info here:

MrAverage 15th Feb 2017 08:39

I don't have a CRI.

Whopity 15th Feb 2017 18:56

SSEA is a SEP but limited as follows:

ANO Schedule 1
“SSEA” means a simple single engine aeroplane, being a Single Engine Piston aeroplane with a maximum take-off weight authorised of not more than 2,000kg and which is not a microlight aeroplane or a SLMG;

Thanks Whopity. Very confusing....

IN 2015/034 stated that if an instructor had FCL.945 privileges included in his/her instructor certificate, then the same privileges would apply to SEP, SSEA, SLMG or TMG ratings included in other UK-issued pilot licences (UK PPL, NPPL, JAR-FCL PPL).

Unfortunately the IN was cancelled earlier this year; however, the CAA has confirmed that the policy still applies.

So the answer to

I have a CRI rating with FCL.945 privileges on my SEP and TMG. Can I conduct the hours flight with a instructor and sign the licence of someone who has a SSEA and SLMG?
is YES.

It will go into CAP804, I understand - so at the moment you won't find it written down anywhere. But it IS the current policy.

Whopity 19th Feb 2017 08:46

It is quite unbeleiveable that the CAA dole out 945 Authorities with no user instructions or guidance; a bit like buying cheap Chinese goods on Ebay.

Not if you adhere to the principles of evidence-based belief systems. Doesn't make it right, though.

Agreed.

I have 945 privileges attached to my CRI but without the generosity of time of a local friendly examiner, I would be completely clueless about what to do with them.

Whilst it is true that the CAA initially provided FCL.945 privileges with no accompanying guidance, they have since published something which I understand should now be provided to all.

I had to ask for it after I got my privileges, and have scanned it to share with others. Here it is: FCL.945 - Obligations for Instructors - Quick Reference

Squawk 2650 20th Feb 2017 18:51

Thanks guys,

Email response from the LAA suggest the same that in fact I can sign it off provided I have done the hours flight.

Thanks for the replies,

It is very confusing!

Are you suppose to send a form to the CAA after conducting the hours flight and signing the licence? Like with the SEP?

BossEyed 20th Feb 2017 19:18

See the link in DaveW's post above. "Instructors are required to complete either form SRG 1119E or SRG1157..." The link then goes on to say what should happen next - it won't copy & paste here easily.

Whopity 20th Feb 2017 19:31

"Instructors are required to complete either form SRG 1119E or SRG1157..."
But those forms are for EASA licences, not National licenses. The hour with an instructor relates only to the NPPL, there are pilots with UK National licences with SLMG ratings issued prior to 2008 and they can be revalidated on the basis of 5 hours in 13 months. See ORS4 No 1192

BossEyed 20th Feb 2017 19:47

Yes, indeed - but we're not (or weren't) talking about the relatively small number of pilots who revalidate using the 5 hours in 13 months route. That's an additional complication.

As BEagle says above, the FCL.945 privileges apply to other non-EASA UK Licences too, and it is reasonable to apply the same actions in those cases.

I'm sure the pilot and instructor are unlikely to meet any sanctions if they fail to complete an SRG1119E or SRG1157 so long as the other documentation is correctly completed but why not (as instructor) apply a common procedure?

And yes, it is a b*gger's muddle.
