Night flying, flight plans

The rules state that a flight plan must now be filed for night flying (Night VFR) but that an "Abbreviated flight plan" or "booking out" is acceptable.

Does this include calling for example London Information and giving them your flight details? Does that count as an abbreviated flight plan for this purpose, or would a full airborne flight plan be necessary?
