Instructing the Night Rating

Hi folks,

do I have to be current (3 landings last 90 days) to instruct the NIT even I do

hold a valid IR (but not an IRI nor FI-IR privileges)?

Which does not change anything, as neither condition applies!

It quite clearly means that, as one of the conditions for providing flight instruction for the night rating, the FI must have carried out in the preceding 90 days at least 1 take-off, approach and landing at night as a pilot flying in an aircraft of the same type or class or an FFS representing that type or class - or he/she must hold an IR,

It’s all just words really, isn’t it, like the rest of this EASA bullsh*t.

Why not just say the FI must be current ?

No wonder I don’t examine or instruct any more………!

I'm still confused whether with just my valid IR I can instruct the NIT (for

which I have anyway the privileges as FI) even I do have not the FI-IR

priveleges. :ugh:

I have to agree with Whopity Beagle. This only applies if you're carrying passengers at night. A night rating student is not a passenger. The instructor can effectively do his "one at night" whilst instructing the student, who logs Pu/t.

If you hold a valid IR then you do not need to have carried out one night landing in the previous 90 days (the fact that you are not qualified to teach for the IR is irrelevant).

I am sorry Mr A but this is incorrect - otherwise there would have been no reason for EASA to include the paragraph FCL.905.FI(e)(3) at all.

To instruct for the Night Rating an FI must comply with the night experience requirement of FCL.060(b)(2);

The only case where, provided it is agreed that a student is a crew member not a passenger, this experience requirement would not apply is for instruction given to someone who already holds a Night Rating (Revalidation and Renewal not being applicable) - Such as someone requiring one night landing before themselves taking passengers and preferring to do that with an Instructor instead of solo,
