TRI TO SFI

As a current TRI does one automatically become an SFI upon loss of Class 1 medical? Or.....?
Any guidance would be appreciated!

RE:

dependīs on your competent authority. In most cases, the TRI(A) is being limited to FSTD only.

No you would have to apply to the competent authority for the issue of the SFI. The TRI automatically fulfils all the requirements so they should just issue it no problem.

I have know of TREs that have lost their medical and applied to the authority who just issued a SFI and SFE cert without question.

TRI may be valid without a class 1 but you have to ask your CA. I know the IAA tend to allow some instructional duties on a case by case basis.

Don't forget the cheque! ABout Ģ160 I think for the UK CAA. But a current TRI/TRE qualifies for SFI/SFE automatically and it can be issued pretty quickly if you lose your medical.

Thank you for the replies!

Can anyone advise the additional requirements to go from SFI to TRI?

You get full credit for the course so you just need to hold the type rating, have valid licence medical and have 30 route sectors on type I believe.

There are some other bits but essentially just the pre-requisites.

From SFI to TRI(restricted), i.e. sim only, you just need to meet the aircraft recency requirements - 30 sectors as PIC on type in the last 12 months. And then send all the paperwork and a cheque to the relevant NAA, of course.
If you want aircraft privileges then you need to do the course that normally consists of a couple of sim sessions with you instructing from a pilot's seat rather than the IOS, one training flight in the aircraft then an Assessment of Competence on the aircraft. Fairly straightforward in principle but the realities of cost and just getting hold of an aircraft for the training/AoC make it pretty difficult.

Good luck!

Route sectors do not need to be PIC.

Thanks all.

Hi,

so basically you need to contact your NAA and provide them with evidence of the 30 sectors correct?
