FIRC

can anyone tell me what books I need to study to pass the "Flight Instructor rating common" exam?

Don't know anything about the exam or the privileges it bestows or the system in which you operate.

But, if it is as I suspect an FI Initial, then I would want to be on top of my game in all subjects - particularly PoF/AGK/Law.

However, more and more prevalent now is the psychology of teaching and learning, understanding the motivators, presentational styles, use of training aids etc what in EASA is referred to as 'The Core Course'. Whilst there is no specific exam for the FI(A) here in EASA, one has to demonstrate commercial level knowledge across all of the subjects relating to the PPL(A) or (H) if that's your thing.

Have you tried posting a question similar to this in one of the Geographic forums more relevant to you?

Is there no "AMC's or GM" (or standards documents) available from your competent authority? What do the people who run the course you hope to do have to say?

DD, unless his Perth location is in Scotland, I'd wager he's asking about new CASA exam. Australia. New 'Part 61' mess, oops, system, has given me some headache/extra expenses already, too.

Civil Aviation Safety Authority - Pilot Instructor Rating Common Examination (PIRC)

called PIRC. Pilot instructor rating common. See info above.
Basically, the Heli instructor manual by NZ CAA/CASA and more importantly the principles of instruction/methods of the FAA handbook, also downloadable online from FAA website. Feedback on BS forum and the Oz specific section of pprune (either or both, can't remember) says the FAA book was the main source, but good to know both.

Yet another extra hoop to jump through. The pre-requisite is PPL or higher licence and it's common for both H and A, so you can sit it whenever, even if you plan doing FI course, whole or conversion later in year or so.
