English language proficiency examiners.
 

Hello everyone,

So as the thread title suggests I am looking for someone who is approved by the CAA to conduct the english language proficiency exam for the issue of an EASA licence. Despite my JAA licence saying my language is english and my current licence (Middle east) stipulating ELP 6, because those marvellous peeps at the CAA state that it wasn't conducted by an approved examiner then it's no good???!!!!

Ideally I would like someone who is around the midlands area but if further afield then so be it. I come back relatively often so would be great to find someone, do the test and send off my application :ok:,

If you are a native/fluent english speaker, you only need to have a vaguely aviation oriented conversation with any UK Examiner and he/she can sign you up for level 6. This should have been done already during previous revals, but will not show on your Licence, so an email to the CAA asking if you are level 6 would be worthwhile, if you havn't done this already.

Incidentally, is it defined anywhere (I've looked but not found) what the criteria are for the intermediate level for people whose English is good but not native-level fluent?

ICAO Annex 1 and AMC2 FCL.055 Language proficiency. The three levels that mater are Operational; Extended and Expert, none of which require native fluency.

I'm looking for an EASA language proficiency authorised examiner in the Bristol area. Hoop-jumping exercise, but needs to be done. Would appreciate any information. Thanks.

If you expect to achieve Level 6 in accordance with Standards Document 51 above, you can complete a face-to-face assessment with any UK Flight Examiner or Radio Telephony Examiner. A list of FEs is not yet available on the CAA website; the list of Radio Telephony examiners is here:

If you don't expect to achieve Level 6, then a FE or RT examiner may not conduct the assessment. The list of UK CAA approved Assessors Of Aviation English Language Proficiency is available within Standards Document 31:

I thought this was a joke when the CAA raised this with me recently when renewing my licence - given that I am a British national and hold an RT licence.

Anyway, any ATO can do it for you.

Not strictly true. Providing you are Level 6, any holder of a UK-issued EASA examiner certificate can do it for you.

Actually, it isn't. Despite my protests, my and many other names are missing from this list. I asked for the list to be updated but so far, no response, despite the CAA taking £236 from me to revalidate my Radio Telephony Examiner rating.
