Expired CFI/MEI

Hi:
I´ve been offered a job in LA as flight instructor, but my CFI/MEI expired 6 months ago.
FAR 61.199 states that I may exchange it for a new one by passing a practical test for one of the rating listed.
Have any of you done it?
Do I have to pass the oral test again?
Do you Know if can do it in Europe?
Thanks in advance.
I´m looking forward to joining you again.

simer,

Well, basically if your Flight Instructor license expires you have to do the entire check-ride all over again. Oral and flight, on top of that, I do belive you need a sign-off from a "191"-instructor (2 years experience Part 61, or 200hrs as a 141-instructor teaching CFIs). I guess you could do it in Europe if you can track down a FAA Designated Pilot Examiner authorized to give CFI check-rides.
Good luck!
