ME-IR/MEP and IMC reval/renewal
Wonder if anyone can advise me on something. I have a single pilot ME-IR that I would like to keep, along with an MEP class rating and national IMC rating. I technically only still use the IMC rating out of all 3 but don't want to go through the pain/cost of doing refresher training through an ATO should I require the ratings in the future.
Question is, can I revalidate all 3 ratings in one flight to reduce costs on a light twin? I know I can do the ME-IR and MEP in one flight (have done before), but I've always done the IMC rating separately on an SEP. Cheers, Jim. |
Yes you can.
If you do it on a MEP your MEP will be revalidated and your SPA IR and IMC ratings will be revalidated for both SEP and MEP use. |
Excellent, that was the answer I was hoping for!

MEP/SPA-IR renewal
Good afternoon gents,
Rather than opening a new tread I would jump on this wagon to ask for advice... I am about to relocate in the Oxfordshire and I would like to put my MEP/SPA-IR back on tracks. Sadly I haven't flown pistons (either SE or ME) for ages so, courtesy of the new EASA nonsense, I am expecting a big dent in my finances! My understanding of the new rules is that, unless your rating is recently expired (not my case) you are at the mercy of the ATO's HoT which shall evaluate your performances and put together a refresh-training before you can be tested. I have 1000+ hours on SPA/ME turbo-prop but it had to be flown 2-crew, I still hope that counts! Now my question: can anyone suggest a number of airfields and ATOs to pay a visit and enquire about all the above? Any input will be very appreciated! Have a nice WE! PZ :ok: |
They are all listed in Stds Doc 31 Ring around and miss out the ones you don't like the responses from.

MEP and IR(ME) EXAM IN SAME FLIGHT
Hello,
Almost the same question but I just want to ask if some one can tell me were can I find the legislation that says I can do it. The situation is this: I'm doing the MEP course and the IR(ME) renewal. I have the vfr training already done (6h) and the training of IR(ME) (3h). Now I just have to do the flight checks. The question is if I can do the MEP check flight and the IR(ME) renewal in the same flight? Some one told me that I could do it. The only thing is that the flight has to have the minimum duration of 01:45. Can any one confirm this, and if so were can I find it on legislation? P.S.: I never had the MEP. I'm doing it now to be able to renewal the IR(ME). Many thanks in advance |
...were can I find the legislation that says I can do it. ...the flight has to have the minimum duration of 01:45. MJ:ok: |
I've never heard of a specified minimum duration for any flight test, except that the test must be of sufficient duration to have credibly covered the test items. |
...were can I find the legislation that says I can do it. 16. The test/check should be accomplished under IFR, if the IR rating is included, and as far as possible be accomplished in a simulated commercial air transport environment. An essential element to be checked is the ability to plan and conduct the flight from routine briefing material. |
I fear he is inventing his own rules. There are recommended test durations in the various standard docs but no where in law does it state they must last a certain time.
You will have to do the MEP skills test and then the ME/IR prof check items. When you have finished and passed that's it. No minimum time. As for the admin side well I'm sure Bose will be along to advise. |
Probably got it from here -
GM1 FCL.1015 Examiner Standardisation (c) When planning the duration of a test, check or assessment of competence, the following values may be used for guidance: (1) 45 minutes for a LAPL(B) or BPL and SP class ratings VFR only; (2) 90 minutes for LAPL(A) or (H), PPL and CPL, including navigation section; (3) 60 minutes for IR, FI and SP type or class ratings; (4) 120 minutes for CPL, MPL, ATPL and MP type ratings. |

Part FCL Appendix 9 Para 16 But anyway... having read all the Apendix 9 a couple of times I guess there is no limit or minimum for the flight. I think it can be done in one single flight as long all the mandatory (M) items are completed. And have to do section 6 a 3b because of the MEP and IR renewal. Will let here the result when I know it for sure. |
It is but there is also a section for single pilot aircraft too.
