Time for a change

Could anyone possibly help me with some information please.

I am the CFI and General Manager of a UK CAA/BMAA registered microlight flight school, in Portugal.

After much thought I have decided to look for a more challenging position involved with another school, I have started to look in Europe, but I was wondering what may be available worldwide, and I have spent several hours on the net, and cannot find anything advertising for CFI/FI in microlight 3 Axis, can anyone point me in the right direction.

Any info you could give would be much appreciated.

I understand the microlight school at Upham near Southampton are often looking for instructors

Offering an opinion here - if you're managing and working as CFI of a school, you are clearly well qualified and understand the whole business of managing a microlight training operation.

In that possition, quite possibly, just going to work for an existing FTO may not be the right thing to do.


Some "Group A" schools are starting to finally realise that with ever-escalating EASA complexity and AVGAS fuel costs, the future of recreational flying is at-least partly in the microlight world (some of us, and the BMAA in particular, have been telling them that for years, and a very few listened, but not many).


I suspect that to work at the level you're used to, and to use the skillset you have now, the best approach you might take is to approach an established school and make them a proposal of getting on board with them and setting up a new microlight training organisation, within the school, but additional to their existing research programme.

Which means probably a large well established school, at a medium sized airfield, in a part of the UK that you'd like to live. Realistically, pick any part of the UK and there should be a few companies worth approaching.

Thank you for your thoughts, this is an avenue I have been looking into, but you would be surprised how many group A schools dismiss 3 axis microlights. As yet I have not had any come back to me, with thoughts of moving in the microlight direction, which is a shame, as I and many others think this is the future of light aviation.

I will still be trying to make "A" schools look at the big picture, I will keep you posted.
