Examiner Authorisation Renewal.
 

My authorisation for FE(PPL) expired over a year ago and I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of what needs to be done to get the authorisation back?

Will I need to resubmit a fresh application to the CAA or will my previous experience mean that there is a 'brush up' type course that could get me going again.

I will try and contact the CAA on this, but I'm hoping someone on pprune will be able to help as well.

Up to a year you should be able to do a standard renewal with an FIE but I would advise you to check with PLD Standards Support. Much more than a year, and they will require you to do a days training plus the renewal test.

I have just an extension of my Examiner authorisation and we were told on the course that it was up to PLD and the CFE what would be required if the authorisation expired by more than a year. But we were told that it would need to be a new SRG1128 to get the ball rolling and the booking a flight test with a CAA FE.

Cheers for the help guys. I'm not too sure I could just go and resit the test, as I haven't actually examined anyone for a good few years, and certainly no tests were carried out in the last year of authorisation.
I have filled out the 1128 form, but why do they make it so difficult to find out how much you must pay. I found this document of the CAA website which pretty much seems to cover any fees you might need to spend, CAA List of Charges.. Hopefully this is the right source document.
Bose, does this have to be done with a Staff FE? I was hoping that as it's for a FE(PPL) that any FIE could do the course.

Sodastream, According to Table 21B of the Examiner Handbook it is a Staff FE for FE CPL, FIE for FE PPL. If you also hold a CRE then it has to be a Staff FE, TSI or FOTI.

So it looks like a test with an FIE will do which will save you the thousand and fifty pound I just paid for a CAA observation to extend my authority.

I can thoroughly recommend the guys at Ontrack Aviation for getting you back up to speed and through the test.

It costs NOTHING for the grant or renewal of a REVALIDATION EXAMINER authorisation :E

The CAA charge 321 pounds for the appointment or re-appointment as a PPL examiner.

ORS 5 number 241 paragraph 4.1.1 (e) is the reference.

No, I am a Class Rating Examiner - SEP/MEP/SET and Type rating for the DO28.

There are no UK training organisations approved to provide training in the DO 28.

Actually there is a UK training organisation that has just been set up to provide training on the DO28. It is a UK CAA registered TRTO and has 2 Instructors and Examiners approved on type to provide the training as well a number of single engine Turboprops. I am one of them. It also happens to be the reason I know it cost £1050 to extend an examiner authority.

And yes you do need to hold a CPL to become a CRE.

No. A PPL can be a CRE but just like the FI rating if you don't hold a CPL then you can't be paid.

Actually DFC, they do. They need to hold or have held a professional licence in accordance with JAR FCL. JAR FCL1 Section I refers.

There is a big difference between having to hold a CPL and having to have held a professional licence in the past.

Just to confirm - one does not need to hold a CPL to be a CRE.
