Requesting Beta Testers for iPhone Logbook program

So, I hope moderators don't think this is an advertisement, because I'm not trying to sell anything.

I've written an application for the iPhone for pilots who need a way to enter flight date. I'm an active flight instructor and I estimate that I've probably got over 500 hours that I haven't logged because I've lost little scraps of paper!

In any event, the idea of the program is to allow you to record your flights immediately after the flight - since you typically would have your phone with you. It's especially targeted towards people like myself that may do several flights a day, i.e. enough flights that it's easy to lose track of by the end of the day. You enter flights into the phone for a day or two, or even a month or two and then when you want to update your logbook data in your home PC, you export from the phone either via email or a built in web server.

I'll eventually put in a viewing feature that lets you do all the sorts of things that electronic logbook programs do, but right now the idea is just to provide convenient data entry each time you do a flight.

I'm hoping to find about 10 people to beta test it. It's already very solid, but if there are missing features or bugs I'd like to know about it before I release the application to the App store.

I have some YouTube tutorials online so that you can get a feeling for what the program can do. If you watch them and decide you would be a good candidate for beta testing, drop me a line at "logbook at copters dot com".

Technically, you could probably use an iPod Touch as well, but I haven't tested that (because I don't have one!).

Here are the links to the YouTube videos:

YouTube - Part1 Configuration
YouTube - Part2 Flight Data Entry
YouTube - Part3 Editing Past Flights
YouTube - Part4 Export

Or you can just find them all at my home on YouTube:

Thanks in advance for any help you guys can give me.

Sincerely,

Paul Cantrell

I'd like to volunteer

Paul-

I'd like to volunteer.

I'm quite interested in what you've done so far. From the YouTube videos it looks like you've made a very easy to use entry mechanism for the iPhone.

As a PPL ASEL and SP WSCL (and former s/w engineer) who flies in both the US and NZ, I'd hope I have something to offer as a tester...

Thanks,
Peter

I'd be glad to help out but I'm just wondering, as an instructor myself, How the hell do you lose over 500 hundred hours of flight time because you lost little scraps of paper? Are you really an instructor? If so check the flight training records of your students and you WILL get your hours back!! Or you could check your payment slips, etc, etc, etc!

I'll be happy to help if, and it's a big IF, the flight time entry can be configured to HH:MM rather than decimal hours (as shown on the videos.)

A sledgehammer to crack a nut I think.

It has been done already:

Major competitor has had this out for over a year:

Coradine Aviation Systems LogTen Mobile

This one allows remote updating of your logbook to your laptop/home computer and will print out in UK CAA CAP407 format among others.

If you can get yours to work with Windows you might have a market.

Folks, I'm guessing this was just a clever advertisement to get you to look at the YouTube links.

The OP hasn't posted anything (anywhere) since this thread started.

Very clever way of getting past the advert ban, eh?
