FAA BFR - looking for FAA CFI in Northern Italy
 

Anyone know of a FAA CFI around in northern Italy? Need to renew my FAA PPL Some time this year...

There is a vast number of FAA CFIs/CFIIs in Europe, virtually all of them freelance. One could search the FAA pilot data website for Italian addresses.

The difficulty is not finding a CFI. The difficulty (in the UK, anyway) is being able to do the required flying legally. God knows what the aerial work rules (if any) are in Italian airspace.

When will you be back in Ireland? because I have a FAA CFI CFII and MEI, live in Dublin, and will not charge you a cent.

Unfortunately a trip to Ireland is not planned at this stage, as I live in Prague, but if anyone should be going anywhere near Prague any time soon, let me know. Would be happy to accommodate yous for a weekend or so...
So now off to search the FAA database, hope they have a decent search function...

Hello,

Would suggest you try to contact Aviano Base (USAF) in NE Italy. Numerous USAF pilots have civilian pilot certificates. There also would be a base Flying Club there, for USAF personnel, and a few CFI would be on staff.

Likely that the base phone operators could help.

Various FAA offices are also located in Europe, head office in BRU, they might be able to help. Any FAA flight standard inspectors, including air carrier, are qualified to administer a BFR in lightplanes. If you fly that BFR there, in a I-registered aircraft, you must be current, qualified and licenced to operate that aircraft and the BFR check pilot will be considered as a passenger. Review FAR 61 pertaining to BFR requirements.

I often fly to Italy - FCO and MXP - would love to fly with you in a lightplane there, to administer your BFR, but unfortunately my FAA/CFI is no longer current, I myself could not find a way to renew it in Argentina... similar problem...
