Jet fuel consumption
A student asked me why jets burn less fuel at higher altitudes.
It is my understanding that a jet engine does not actually become a more fuel-economical machine at higher altitudes. Reduced parasite drag at high altitude means less engine thrust required, and therefore, less consumption. Can anyone tell me if this is right? |
