Revalidation of FAA CFI in Europe?
 

It would appear that there are no FAA approved examiners left in Europe who can conduct CFI, CFII and MEI flight tests. Does anybody know any different? Mine have lapsed and like to make them current again. Is an expensive trip to the States required to achieve this? If so can any of you recommend an outfit or examiner? Further I believe I can do a flight test in a C152 say and the examiner he/she can sign of all the above ratings, is this correct? :eek:

It is correct that you only have to take one flight test to revalidate all ratings on your CFI certificate. I suggest going to see the mighty Byron de Groff in Groton, Connecticut. By far the greatest examiner in the world.

Sorry this doesn't help if they've already lapsed but for future refence, did you know you can do the refresher seminar on-line through the Gleim website. Cost when I did mine last year $99.

I just did mine from the Congo and for an extra $25.00, Gleim will even take care of all of the paperwork. The hardest part for me was finding a notary for the ID validation.

I'd be interested in knowing why you consider Bryon De Groff the greastest examiner in the world?

What rating did he sign you off for and how many other examiners have you flown with in the USA?

I did my MEI with BDG, I also worked with him for a while and sent him about a hundred students, most of which passed first time. Hence his popularity with me!

How much work does it take to do the on-line revalidation? I've been thinking of doing it that way.

Basically the format is there are 16 sections or modules, each of which is split into three parts. First part is a fairly straight forward 10 question multi choice so you can identify your weak areas. Then you download a study module, study it and then do the real Multi choice. If succesful you are allowed to download the next module.

None of it is particularly difficult, and some of it quite interesting, sometimes fairly basic stuff that you haven't considered before ! The only draw back is the amount of paper if you actually want to print off the study parts.

If your knowledge is fairly current you can get through 3 or 4 modules an evening.

Oh and as someone else said earlier, there aren't that many Notary Publics around this country but they are there.
