SE IR Query

Hi All,

Hoping someone can help me regarding whether my ME/IR is also valid for SE purposes.

I have a UK CAA CPL/IR. under section XII (Certificate of revalidation) my licence says "IR-SP-ME class/SE". As well as my MEP & SEP Ratings.

I passed my ME IR on a MEP aircraft a few months back. About a month later I renewed my SEP rating which had been expired a number of years (It was on the back of my licence and is now on the front). Is my IR valid for use on a SEP aircraft also? I'm asking as my SEP rating wasn't current (it had expired) on the day I sat my IR skills Test.

I can't for the life of me seem to find an answer. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

FCL.620 IR
[...]
(c) Applicants who have completed a skill test for a multi-engine IR in a single-pilot multi-engine aeroplane for which a class rating is required shall also be issued with a single-engine IR for the single-engine aeroplane class or type ratings that they hold.

Your IR is valid for single engine and multi engine aircraft, you can exercise the privileges as long as the class rating is valid.

The rating, SEP(land), wasn't held at the moment of the skills test, so the CAA shouldn't have issued it as valid for SE. No doubt it didn't fit their checklists

As you technically never held the IR-SP-SE, it should probably be training at an ATO the an IR-SP-SE skills test. However because the CAA put it on your licence you could probably get away with cross crediting, fly 3 approaches in a SEP with an IRI, show it to an IRE and they can sign the IR-SP-SE off with the same validity date as your IR-SE-ME. Next year you can then sign them both off with the same profcheck.

What did your licence say before you renewed the SEP (Land) - was it "IR-SPA-ME class" or "IR-SPA-ME/SE class"?
When the licence was re-printed, did the entry change affording you SE IR privileges?

I'm probably giving the CAA too much credit, but I don't think their computer would allow them to issue the "SE IR" element without the relevant class rating. The rule implicitly requiring the appropriate class rating came in fairly recently so they should be looking for it.
