New Rating Validity Dates.

Flying Instructors & Examiners A place for instructors to communicate with one another because some of them get a bit tired of the attitude that instructing is the lowest form of aviation, as seems to prevail on some of the other forums!

New Rating Validity Dates.

New Rating Validity Dates.

Been reading through the various ORS4 documents and think I am right in saying that if you are currently operating under an extension to your SEP rating under the original ORS4-1374 and subsequent 1385 documents, that your new rating expiry date will be 30 November 2022 when you revalidate. Is this also true of other ratings such as MEP, SPA-IR etc ?

From ORS4-1412
Relevant aeroplane and helicopter pilots, instructors and examiners are exempted from the standard validity or other time periods of any of the following that expire on or after 16 March 2020 and before 31 October 2020, which may be extended until the end of the validity period of this exemption:
a) class ratings, type ratings and instrument ratings, including the instrument rating (restricted), endorsed in Part-FCL pilot licences;
and commercial operators are covered by ORS4-1410.

I might be missing something here, I have read through ORS4-1412 as well and understand all these ratings can be extended but the question is, if for example your MEP should have expired on 31st August, it has been extended to 22/11/20, if you take the revalidation proficiency check in September, will the examiner date the new expiry as 30/09/21 or 30/11/21 ?

OK lets stick to the MEP, your rating expires on 22/11/20; you revalidate it in the 3 months before the expiry date and the rating is signed up to one year beyond the expiry date, not the date of revalidation. So it will be signed up to 30 Nov 21.

Perfect, thank you. That's what I thought, just couldn't find it in any of the ORS4 documents.

Is there any update on validity of licences under ORS4 now we are well past Nov 2020? Lots of aviators were let go at the end of the last furlough scheme (ended 31 Oct 2020) and will find it hard to revalidate ratings.

No they all came to an end on 30th November. ORS4-1418; 1419; 1428 and 1464 are still current.
