Flying Instructors & Examiners A place for instructors to communicate with one another because some of them get a bit tired of the attitude that instructing is the lowest form of aviation, as seems to prevail on some of the other forums!

Certificates and more Certificates...

Hi All,

Being a recent convert to the UK CAA/EASA system, I'm still finding my way around. I've just recently been told that in addition to the license, MCC, JOC etc, I also need the following certificates;

PBN
Fire Fighting
Wet Ditching.
RVSM
MNPS
Aviation Security

To be honest, I wasn't even sure what some of these were at first. I'm not having a huge amount of luck with Google for once and feeling a bit crest-fallen having found out that I'm not yet at the end of a very long and expensive process. If anybody can suggest, via PM or thread, what I need to do and where I need to go to obtain all of these, I would be extremely grateful....

Cheers

Most of those are 1 day courses that any airline will put you through as part of their induction.

PBN can be done by Computer Based Training e.g. from Bristol Ground School (around £45) who will provide a Course Completion Certificate upon passing the CBT online quizes and test. Then an IR Proficiency Check which includes an RNAV approach / missed approach which can be done at any ATO with a suitably equiped FNPT-II simulator. Revalidated IR plus new PBN is then endorsed on your license.

Cannot comment on the other elements.

Everything you mention should be provided by your employer as part of your induction and ongoing currency. Its certainly been my experience.
