Restricted Unrestricted Flight Instructor - huh ?
Im hoping for some advice please fellow aviators.
I'm waiting for the CAA to issue my licence. (8 weeks and counting .. ) but that's another story. I have asked them to issue my Flight Instructor rating to reflect my experience, ie, unrestricted as I have previously met these requirements through teaching in another country.
The lady at the CAA, after conferring with her colleague in Tech support, today told me that providing requirements Part-FCL 910 FI have been met, I will be issued with an EASA 'unrestricted restricted FI rating' - which she says is a gateway to taking an abbreviated course to get a fully unrestricted EASA FI rating.
I would really appreciate knowing whether this person is talking utter nonsense - or has anyone actually heard of such a thing as a Restricted Unrestricted FI Rating?

I don't think such a thing exists, it's either restricted or unrestricted. Just had a read of FCL.910.FI FI — Restricted privileges and there is no mention of "Unrestricted restricted FI Rating".

Sadly, very few of the CAA staff know what they are talking about, the management isn't any better either. I suspect you will be issued with a FI(Restricted) Certificate. Then subject to some paperwork from the CFI of the school where you teach they will usually remove the restriction.

Converting from an FAA Flight Instructor rating.
Your replies confirm my suspicions although im not that surprised tbh - however it would be simpler if they just said that they didnt know the answer.

Are you 'converting' an FAA CFI certificate or claiming experience gained as a CFI toward the FCL.910 requirements? I take it you have applied for an initial issue FI(A) following completion of an EASA FIC course?

You should be issued with a FI Rating (Restricted) and then it's just a matter of validating your experience to have the restriction removed. But you can never be 100% certain with the CAA.

3.6.4 Applicants who can demonstrate they have met the experience requirements for the removal of restriction of FCL.910.FI on the basis of their ICAO Instructor rating may have the Part-FCL Instructor certificate issued without this restriction at initial issue.
