Tailwheel training.

Tailwheel training.

Hello everyone,

Is it possible to train for tailwheel differences with a lapsed SEP class rating. i.e. combine the skills test for SEP renewal and tailwheel.

Can't find anything in CAP804 other than for Single Pilot Single Engine the ATO must decide on refresher training to pass the proficiency check.

SEP expired just over 2 years ago. SET valid as well as IMC & SPA-MEIR.

Cheers,
m-o

Absolutely no problem to combine SEP renewal and tailwheel conversion. Speak to an ATO which offers tailwheel conversion and they will advise.

Happy landings

Many thanks for the feedback.

In your experience, which would be a good aircraft to learn these new skills. If it's of no relevance and any tailwheel will do, then thats fine.

Thanks again.

Some tailwheel aeroplanes are a bit more sensitive than others but I'd certainly teach tailwheel differences concurrent with SEP renewal on any of the following ...

Chipmunk
Piper Cub (J3, L4 or PA-18)
Luscombe
C120
CAP 10
Jodel

I'm sure many others are suitable but I've refrained from recommending any I don't have personal experience of.

Others may wish to add to the list?!?

Happy landings

Many thanks 3 point.

I'll ring around. Pity about this whole ATO stuff. I would be able to get access to a nice Jodel otherwise.

Cheers

Well,

An ATO may be willing to use your Jodel for the training.

Alternatively, the SEP renewal must be done in an ATO environment but the Tailwheel training does not require an ATO so you could separate them?!?

As an ATO I would be happy to use your Jodel for training as long as it has dual brakes. I am in the midlands and Jerez.

maxed-out,

Add Citabria/Decathalon/Scout to 3Point's list. Very similar to the Cub family, but nicer in my opinion.

If money is not a major concern, go for the Chipmunk.

Hi, I'm in the London area. I would be happy to sort this out for you if you're interested in doing it in a Super Cub.
Just drop me a message.
Best,
GS.

Citabria or Decathalon with a basic aerobatics course would be a great way to enhance your skills and is tons of fun.

Likewise, I am based on the south coast, drop me a PM, especially if interested in combining it with some aerobatic training.

The CFI may even consider the Jodel...
