Credit for ICAO MEP Rating

I am just trying to check the requirements for an ICAO ME holder to add the rating to an EASA licence. I have checked in Part FCL and CAP 804 for the cross credit but it only says mentions 100hrs of flight time on class.

Does this mean that if an ICAO ME holder has less than 100hrs on MEP they must do a full MEP course?

I looked this one up recently and it appears that even a EASA ATPL holder who does not have an MEP Class rating, is required to do all of the training specified in FCL.725A. As that is an ICAO licence, I think we have come to the same conclusion.

Annex III to Regulation 1178/2011

C. ACCEPTANCE OF CLASS AND TYPE RATINGS
1. A valid class or type rating contained in a licence issued by a third country may be inserted in a Part-FCL licence provided that the applicant:
(a) complies with the experience requirements and the prerequisites for the issue of the applicable type or class rating in accordance with Part-FCL;
(b) passes the relevant skill test for the issue of the applicable type or class rating in accordance with Part-FCL;
(c) is in current flying practice;
(d) has no less than:
(i) for aeroplane class ratings, 100 hours of flight experience as a pilot in that class;
(ii) for aeroplane type ratings, 500 hours of flight experience as a pilot in that type;
(iii) for single-engine helicopters with a maximum certificated take-off mass of up to 3 175 kg, 100 hours of flight experience as a pilot in that type;
(iv) for all other helicopters, 350 hours of flight experience as a pilot in that class.
If the applicant does not meet the above requirements, the rating cannot be transferred and, yes, the full experience requirements of FCL.720.A and training requirements of FCL.725.A must be met instead.

(c) is in current flying practice;

Does it mean in current flying practice on the class or type rating required to be inserted or just be in current flying practice ? or does it mean just valid?

I have a AMEL rating on my FAA ATP. However lost the MEP on my EASA licence by more than 3 years. I have more than 100 hours on class.

So can I just do a skill test on a MEP with a EASA CRE then go to gatwick and ask them to insert the mep on my EASA ATPL on the basis of the FAA AMEL rating.

Would be cheaper than having to redo the full course in europe!

would that be the same with the 737 rating. Just do a recurrent on my FAA ATP and then a LST with a EASA TRE, then go to gatwick (have more than 4000 hours on the 737).

Or do I need to actually fly the aircraft before going to gatwick!

No, you must got to an ATO who make an assessment and complete training as required, then on their recommendation, you can take the Class Rating skill test and apply.

To update. I got an official reply from the CAA. Where a candidate does not meet the 100hrs requirement then it is training as required and a skill test.

tdk90,

Could you keep us posted when you go to the CAA.

My worries is in current practise. I have more than 100hours on MEP, but haven't fly since a few years. Meaning I could do a quick MEP revalidation on my FAA rating, requiring one or two flights and then put it on my EASA license via a simple LST.
will they accept 2 flights as "being in current practise"

that would be cheaper than having to redo a full MEP rating (expired by more than 3 years) + the LST.

slr, haven't had a chance to go in yet. I did email a question to them, they've been good in the past at giving a thorough reply. I'll let you know as soon s I get more info...it sound's like i'm in the same boat as you although I never had the MEP on my JAA.
