Faa Cfi Renewal Online
Hi there
I hold FAA CFI CFII MEI Licenses and need to renew them.
I heard i can do that online.
Anyone done this before ??

I used that one too, it takes about 4 to 6 hours and every thing is done.
Very easy to complete, you have the questions on one page and the reading is on the previous page so you just have to read the question and find out the answer if you don't know it by heart.

You can use this web site too, it is a little bit more expensive but good for life.Next year I will use it.

americanflyers, I used them 3 times now, and it cost me only 100$. you still have to do 16 hours online and answer some questions.
from europe, they want 50$ for paperwork. It's free if you are in the States.

I,ve used the American Flyers online CFIRC for some time now. Paid once, US$100 then for life, so it is quite good deal. They charge you $25 for the renewal if you can't get to the US to visit a FSDO, so it is quite good value for money.
Well technically your choices are:
The online FIRC being the least complicated why would you want to do anything else?
There is at least one FAA approved DPE in the UK, you'll have to get in touch with him and find out if he even has CFI renewal authorization.
It's not the most exciting thing but trust me, do the online FIRC.
§ 61.197 Renewal requirements for flight instructor certification.
(a) A person who holds a flight instructor certificate that has not expired may renew that flight instructor certificate by—
(1) Passing a practical test for—
(i) One of the ratings listed on the current flight instructor certificate; or
(ii) An additional flight instructor rating; or
(2) Submitting a completed and signed application with the FAA and satisfactorily completing one of the following renewal requirements—
(i) A record of training students showing that, during the preceding 24 calendar months, the flight instructor has endorsed at least 5 students for a practical test for a certificate or rating and at least 80 percent of those students passed that test on the first attempt.
(ii) A record showing that, within the preceding 24 calendar months, the flight instructor has served as a company check pilot, chief flight instructor, company check airman, or flight instructor in a part 121 or part 135 operation, or in a position involving the regular evaluation of pilots.
(iii) A graduation certificate showing that, within the preceding 3 calendar months, the person has successfully completed an approved flight instructor refresher course consisting of ground training or flight training, or a combination of both.
(iv) A record showing that, within the preceding 12 months from the month of application, the flight instructor passed an official U.S. Armed Forces military instructor pilot proficiency check.
(b) The expiration month of a renewed flight instructor certificate shall be 24 calendar months from—
(1) The month the renewal requirements of paragraph (a) of this section are accomplished; or
(2) The month of expiration of the current flight instructor certificate provided—
(i) The renewal requirements of paragraph (a) of this section are accomplished within the 3 calendar months preceding the expiration month of the current flight instructor certificate, and
(ii) If the renewal is accomplished under paragraph (a)(2)(iii) of this section, the approved flight instructor refresher course must be completed within the 3 calendar months preceding the expiration month of the current flight instructor certificate.
(c) The practical test required by paragraph (a)(1) of this section may be accomplished in a flight simulator or flight training device if the test is accomplished pursuant to an approved course conducted by a training center certificated under part 142 of this chapter.

I have used American Flyers online many times.
In my opinion they are BRILLIANT.
The system has recently changed . you now have to study for 8 exams.
The study time varies from 60 -100 minutes for each exam .
you are allowed 2 attempts at each exam.
If you fail any exam more than twice, you are back to flight test!

Guys i wanna know, what if i do not renew my FAA Instructor's license which is getting lapsed on 30 Dec2010. I am not using its privileges and am outside the US.
What my question is, say two years down the line I want to renew it... wat happens then?? Do i hv to go through the entire procedure of the initial issue???

You'll need to fly with a designated examiner to renew an expired CFI certificate. It's in 14 CFR 61 and can be found here ... FAA: Home

CFI online renewal experience
I live in Spain, and have used AOPA/Jeppesen to renew my CFI, online. Some good things, some not so good.
- "If you get caught up in strong headwinds, you must continue at the best endurance speed". Wrong. Simple diagram of power required/available versus airspeed will soon dispel that myth.
- "Once you turn from base towards final approach, the headwind will weathervane you onto the right direction". No amount of emails would convince them the folly of this statement.
- Admin - all OK. They assured me that a Spanish Notary Public could sign the forms, no problem. They were 100% right.
- It seemed like I wasn't the only one to contest Jeppesen's quality, reading between the lines. I will try American Flyers this time....
