Rudder overbalance Vs. FAR 25 /CS 25
Out of interest, should an aircraft be free from rudder overbalance at all speeds at and above VMCA to meet the requirements of FAR25 in particular, for full rudder deflection/max rudder force?
I ask, as a previous type had a rudder overbalance warning system, yet was FAR25 certified. Or, as overbalance was a possibility, would the installation of an overbalance warning system allow deviation typically from the requirements of FAR25? (My understanding of rudder overbalance being the aerodynamic forces/moments on the control surface exceed the control actuator restoring forces/moment). Thanks in advance! |
Sorry, C130. Curious as to why the rudder wasn't simply limited to prevent an overbalance condition?

I guess it would depend at what rudder deflection the overbalance started. If it was at a quite small angle you would not be able to give up that much authority? |
Fantastic thanks. Gives me room for thought.
Appreciate all the guidance thanks. |
